Eventually, We Get Tapped Out

“You can only care about other people’s stuff so much.”

A client said this in session and I wrote it down.

I just found it to be such a powerful statement.

This, my friends, is a great pro-boundary statement.

For those of us who think it’s more compassionate to have no boundaries, to try to care for others all of the time, this sentence exemplifies why that is not a good idea:

Eventually, we get tapped out.

When we have flexible boundaries (rigid when we want, porous when we want,) we don’t get tapped out. It actually helps us be more present for others.
